OUR EMPLOYMENT VISION

At Light of Life Trust (LOLT), we provide Employment Training to support the holistic development of underprivileged rural communities. We provide training in skills that have an available and sustainable path for income generation. In the last 9 years, 5,229 women and youth have received training in different occupational and professional development courses. 

Our courses include Sewing and Tailoring, Jewelry Design, Computer Software Training, Journalism, Mobile Repair, Nurse Aide, Henna Artist and Entrepreneur Training.

SEWING AND TAILORING

Over the last year, LOLT trained ~150 women in sewing, tailoring and apparel design. 30 of them were consequently employed to make uniforms for school children. This new skill has enabled them to be earning members of their family.  

With support from Lions Club of Mumbai Queensway, a sewing & tailoring unit was started to employ 30 women. 

 

JEWELRY DESIGN

In the last year,  25 women were trained in Jewelry Design. A new Jewelry Design Center was opened in Maharashtra employing 10 women to make jewelry. Jewelry, made by these women, is displayed at various LOLT events, thereby providing them with an earning opportunity.

COMPUTER SOFTWARE TRAINING

Equipping with software skills

Computer usage and proficiency training is offered across 54 villages and graduated 180 folks in the last year.  Given the growing demand and importance of this skillset and thanks to partnership from Rivergate Resort, we expanded this offering and built 2 additional centers in 2018.  Graduates of this program are able to access Data entry jobs in Tata Industries.

 

BEAUTICIAN TRAINING

Hands on learning

In the last year, ~200 women successfully completed the Beautician course.  Participants learn about facials, make-up and hair styling. They also  get an opportunity to practice on each other.  The practice allows them to strengthen their skills and learn from each other in a safe environment. 

 

SUCCESS STORIES

Jyoti's Story

Jyoti was a homemaker with two kids and her husband earned very  little as a labourer. She completed both basic and advanced sewing and tailoring course at Kashele Center.  She has now started her own home business and earns INR 5000 per month.

Anjana's Story

Anjana Biswas dropped out of school after 8th grade and worked as an attendant in a farmhouse. She attended and thrived in LOLT’s Jewelry Design course. Anjana now earns ~INR 7000/month and is also pursuing a course in advanced Jewelry Design. 

Gaurav's Story

Gaurav More  finished high school, but was unemployed for 3 years. He successfully completed the mobile repair course. Gaurav now earns ~INR 4000/month. He now plans to open his own Mobile Repair shop in Pune.

Renuka's Story

After graduating from the beautician course, Renuka Mate, started her own Beauty Parlor. She is now a small business owner and is earning ~INR  5000/per month and is able to support her family.

Malu's Story

Malu Kambere is 58 years old. He completed LOLT’s plant nursery course at Jagruti centre, Tiware. He was inspired & motivated to start his own ornamental plant nursery at his own residence. He now earns INR 6,000/per month.
